Behind Bars
Friday, September 2, 2011 at 03:01PM Very powerful show and subject matter.
Congratulations, Andrew. It's an inspiring body of work.

Unsettling, thought-provoking. Thanks, Kevin.
Congratulations. They are all so powerful, but I can't get the image of the depressed man out of my mind.
-Kelly
Congratulations! Ditto to the above.
Sabine, Stephanie: Such an inspiring show. Keep it up.
-Alex
I'm very moved, angry, depressed by this exhibit. I don't know how to act, but something must be done. WVCR's "Fancy Brocolli" is one avenue of action. Thank you for giving light to an abominable situation.
-Creek
Thank you, Andrew. An important body of work and an issue that is largely ignored. Poignant. Powerful.
-Raeford
Great work, again, as always.
-Jen/Brian

Moving and provocative - will pass the word.
Very moving and emotional. This work captures the real and often forgotten humanity behind bars.
-Tommy
Thank you for your caring. I've been incarcerated and I remember thinking at the time, "If only people could see/know what goes on." Thank you.
-Sara
Strong.
Andrew, so glad to have seen your show. Impressed by your work.
-Sandra
Enjoyed a fascinating conversation with Stephanie. The work is quite compelling.
-John
Powerful exhibit!
-David
Andrew - love the exhibition and looking forwad to running into you again in Carroll Gardens. Love - your student, neighbor and friend.
Abu Ghraib seems less of an anomaly....
What a marvelous contribution - so this is our humanity - tragic!
-Lillian
Wonderful, important work!
I worked as a jail librarian in Seattle many years ago (city and county). This is important: to bring light to their darkness, and shame to a society which promotes and tolerates such horrors. America's failures are shoved into dark corners, where they are treated as refuse. Their existence shows our moral and ethical failures as a society.
Very interesting work ... wish I could get involved in prison reform. You've made a wonderful exhibition and the artisit very thought-provoking photos. Thanks, Cesar.
Very moving. I see the impact of the prison system on children. Devastating.
This was amazing; even for me, who has been doing prison work for nearly 40 years - since Attica. New York has actually come far. Texas not so much.
-Hy
Your work is very touching and honest. Thanking you for bringing your work here to Beacon for free!
-Marisa
Thank you for your educational exhibits. The historical information provided at each one is needed and more than welcome. Continued good wishes for contributing to humankind. We are all one love.
